2025 Peaky Masters Preview

The Green Jacket Awaits at Lederach Golf Club

A new season of the Peaky Tour is upon us, and with it, the return of a cherished tradition: the Peaky Masters, set to tee off this Saturday at its iconic home, Lederach Golf Club in Harleysville, PA. Much like Augusta, Lederach is a venue steeped in history. Its wide fairways invite aggression off the tee, but its sloping, unpredictable greens demand precision, creativity, and nerve.

The Peaky Masters, a singles stroke play event, is more than just a tournament — it's a yearly convergence of rivalry, redemption, and rising pressure. Legacies are shaped here, and mistakes are magnified.

With new faces, returning champions, and career milestones on the line, the 2025 edition is shaping up to be the most electric yet.

James Choy Looks to Defend His Title and Legacy

The reigning champion, James Choy, enters as the man to beat. His win last year not only secured the green jacket but also completed the first-ever career grand slam in Peaky Tour history — a historic feat that places him firmly in the league’s elite.

A successful title defense would make James the first player to go back-to-back at the Peaky Masters and extend the exclusive Champions Dinner circle, which currently includes only himself, JT, Chris, and Ian.

Newcomers Take the Stage

The 2025 field features two debutants: Keegan Mackey and Sam Trauger. Both players are

making their first appearances on Peaky Tour soil — and there’s no more iconic place to begin than Lederach in the Peaky Masters. With expectations high and handicaps promising, all eyes will be on how they handle the pressure of a major on day one.

Aidan Eyes the Grand Slam

With a win on Saturday, Aidan Peyton can join James as only the second player to complete the career grand slam. With three legs already secured, this marks his second attempt at sealing the final jewel — and a Peaky Masters victory would officially etch his name in Peaky history.

But he'll need to bounce back from recent form — his handicap has ticked up to 13.1, and the field is deeper than ever.

Major Droughts and Breakthrough Opportunities

The Peaky Masters has often served as a breakout platform, and this year may be no different. Several players enter still seeking their first major championship:

  • Colin Drummond and Eric Stengel, past winners of the Liberty Bell Match Play, are still looking for that elusive major win.

  • Ciaran Sutherland returns once again, still seeking his first Peaky Tour win of any kind — a green jacket would be the ultimate breakthrough.

  • Tom, JP, Liam, Callum, and Ruiraidh have found success in team events but have yet to lift a trophy on their own. The Masters offers a stage to flip that script.

Players in Peak(y) Form

Several competitors are heading to Lederach at the top of their game:

  • Ruiraidh Sutherland enters with the lowest handicap on tour at 5.6, backed by a recent round of 74 that turned heads and affirmed his status as a serious contender.

  • Callum Sutherland is also playing the sharpest golf of his career. After recently carding a 79, he boasts a 10.8 handicap and enters the Masters with growing confidence and momentum.

  • Cameron Cleary (11.3), JT Peyton (14.7), Ciaran Sutherland (14.2), and Eric Stengel (16.6) all enter with career-low handicaps.

Mic’d Up Madness: JT, Colin, Chris, and Ian Featured

For the first time ever, fans will get an inside-the-ropes experience as a featured group, including JT, Colin, Chris, and Ian, who will be mic’d up throughout the round. Expect banter, brutal honesty, and maybe even some tournament-altering insight (or implosions).

Cameron Cleary: Dark Horse or Injury Risk?

One of the field’s most consistent players, Cameron Cleary, comes in at his lowest handicap ever, but is also nursing a leg injury. Whether he can handle Lederach’s hills remains to be seen, but if healthy, he’s one of the most complete players in the field.

Colin Drummond: The Runner-Up Streak

Few players have been as heartbreakingly close to glory at the Peaky Masters as Colin Drummond. Incredibly, Colin has finished in 2nd place in each of the last three Masters tournaments — 2022, 2023, and 2024 — falling just short of the green jacket every time.

2023's playoff loss to JT Peyton was particularly gut-wrenching, as Colin held the lead late until JT birdied a few down the stretch to force a playoff. Despite the setbacks, his consistency on one of the tour’s most challenging courses is unmatched.

Now entering his fifth Peaky Masters with a 20.6 handicap, Colin has experience, motivation, and unfinished business.

Could this finally be the year he turns a silver streak into Peaky Masters green?
